Born in Finland on May 29, 1947, Irmeli JUNG left her native country at the age of 18 for Germany where she studied photography. After graduating as a Photographer specialising in black and white portraits, she left Hanover for Paris in 1970 and decided to make a photo album of Juliette GRECO. Her collaboration with Juliette GRECO began in 1972 particularly with this album and also for the album cover of "Mon fils chante" in 1973, as well as posters. This collaboration with Juliette continues to this day ....
Irmeli JUNG’s book on Juliette GRECO was completed in 1990 and is published by Editions Imprimerie Nationale. The text is written by Regine DEFORGES.
Along with her collaboration with Juliette GRECO, Irmeli JUNG created album covers for other French artists such as: BARBARA, Georges MOUSTAKI, MOULOUDJI, JEAN FERRAT......
In 1982 she began taking portraits of writers for many French publishing houses: STOCK, GALLIMARD, FLAMMARION, GRASSET, Jean-Claude LATTÈS….
In 1984 the newspaper LE MONDE decided to include portraits of their writers in the literary supplement. Irmeli JUNG was their exclusive photographer until 1987 and has photographed many world famous writers: Marguerite YOURCENAR, James BALDWIN, Aimé CÉSAIRE, Léopold SENGHOR, Françoise SAGAN, Frédéric BEIGBEDER, Alberto MORAVIA….

Published by Éditions GALLIMARD in 1988, Irmeli JUNG created a photo album of Émile CIORAN with her aphorisms entitled « Élan vers le pire ».
In 1994 Irmeli JUNG was a visiting professor for portraits at the National School of Photography of Arles.
